| 摘要 | The writer traces the history of the Haeinsa Temple,Korea, and of the distinguished monks who shaped its history. The temple is located halfway up Mt. Kayasan, which is considered one of the ten most propitious sites in the country. The selection of this auspicious site was influenced by Chinese geomantic principles to support the promotion of Buddhism. Built during the Koryo Dynasty (918-1392),it later became the repository of the Koryo Buddhist canon, which is engraved on 80,000 wooden printing blocks. The temple, which was remodeled and extended over the years, includes several hermitages where a number of distinguished monks preached and practiced Dharma in the secular world. The writer goes on to examine the lives and philosophies of masters Uisang,Kyunyo,Yujong, and Songch'ol. |
