| 摘要 | "Desire" is still a controversial term. Its analysis depends on a sound theory of emotion. The majority of recent philosophical work on emotion has supported the cognitive theory of emotion. This theory comes together，for mutual support，with the rational- emotive theory in the area of therapy. Using this theory，a number of characteristics of desire are discovered. It is also used as a tool by which to give insight into，and to evaluate，a number of classical and contemporary theories：Stoics, Buddhism，Hume，Schopenhauer，Dewey. The concept of metadesire is introduced which is seen to solve some of the problems and paradoxes regarding desire. |
