| 摘要 | This article introduces and defends epistemological Buddhism--a pluralist epistemology which rejects commitment to belief as an inappropriate response to the twentieth century's loss of certainty. It regards interpretation as fundamental to knowledge and criticism as fundamental to interpretation. But it argues that criticism should aim at understanding，as opposed to discrediting，conflicting interpretations. In distinguishing pluralism regarding truth from pluralism regarding knowledge，it defends the latter against charges of incoherency，arguing that it is possible to view the world from opposing perspectives and that understanding the world from such perspectives is what constitutes cognitive growth in a pluralistic universe. |
