| 摘要 | This paper examines the inherent philosophical tensions between the Brahmanical and the Buddhist interpretations of time and consciousness, which are shown to have decisive impact on the formulations of a theory of self or no-self. Referring to various conceptual moves that reflect the internal differences that are present in each of these traditions, different configurations of ideas are disclosed，such as the diverse conceptual schemes where a notion of an identical self is seen operating along with a notion of an absolute time or a view of time as appearance. One also comes across a view of discrete time which leads to a total rejection of the idea of an identical self. The challenge and complexity of a philosophical account of time，self and consciousness is demonstrated with help of the polemical literature. |
