| 摘要 | An analysis is presented contrasting the classical economic concept of 'economic man'，which is seen to lead to resource exhaustion and environmental degradation with an economic philosophy derived from Buddhism，which, it is argued，in theory and practice achieves material and spiritual security for sustainable development. Relevant Buddhists teaching on economy，environment and human suffering are drawn from the Dhammapada (Buddhist scriptures). A case study is provided of the Sarvodaya Shramadana movement，founded in 1958，which is involved in community development in Sri Lanka. A step-by-step approach is delineated to escape from the 'village in decline scenario' to the cooperative，harmonious and sustainable village community. |
