| 摘要 | The paper notes that privatization in Nepal has not led to greater competition and has had a regressive impact on the distribution of income of the individual and the wealth of the nation; more specifically, the Kathmandu Valley demonstrates how unwilling and ill-suited the private sector is to resolving the problem of cleaning the environment. The paper seeks an alternative model for development in the light of Buddhist teachings and practices that is labelled 'the economics of Buddhism'. It develops the notion of community welfare as exemplified in the Bodhisativa concept. It draws clear distinction between high living standard and high level of consumption and between community development and economic growth. The Sarvodaya and Bhutan Buddhist-inspired movements in South Asia are cited as illustrations of Buddhist community action. |
