| 摘要 | The purpose of this study was to provide a comparison across cultures and within cultures of six models of the person and mental health. The Western models of Freud, Skinner, and Rogers were contrasted with the Eastern models of Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism. The values and ideals implicit in each model were examined, as well as their treatment of anxiety, autonomy, and temporal orientation. The nature of anxiety, autonomy, and time were considered as aspects of cultural and individual worldviews. The impact of worldviews on therapeutic process and goals was discussed. An influence of Eastern psychology on Western transpersonal psychology was indicated. Eastern models were found to assume a primordial unifying principle in human psychology that is far less prominent in Western models. This study indicated a strong relationship between the value a model places on individual perception and awareness and the value the model places on freedom and autonomy. |
