| 摘要 | Tibetan refugees (Mahayana Buddhists, N = 59) and native Hindus (N = 66) residing in Himachal Pradesh in India were administered the Life Quality Scale. As expected, Tibetan refugees displayed greater life satisfaction than Hindu natives despite language problems and fewer financial resources for the Tibetan participants. Analyses of items across occupational levels revealed large differences between Hindu laborers and shopkeepers and relatively few between Tibetan laborers and shopkeepers. The high life quality reported by the Tibetan sample is interpreted in terms of their religious beliefs which stress self contentment and the pleasure of existing in the presence of the living God, the Dalai Lama. While both Hindus and Tibetans subscribe to the fatalistic attitude of Karma, the Tibetans report greater life satisfaction. If one looks beyond the superficial similarities in the concept of Karma, however, it becomes clear that Tibetans adopt a "proactive" posture as opposed to the "reactive" fatalism of the Hindus. |
