| 摘要 | This thesis is a phenomenological study of the Zen Center of Los Angeles (ZCLA). Phenomenology and Zen have a conceptual and, to a lesser extent, historical relationship. The historical development of Buddhism and the evolution of place are expressed in the landscapes and practices of ZCLA. Therefore a study of the sensescapes and experience of place at ZCLA requires a discussion of the past and the present. This thesis traces the development of Zen philosophy and the evolution of place in Buddhism. It then interprets ZCLA in terms of landscape, soundscape and 'otherscapes.' Finally, the experience of place is discussed in terms which geographical phenomenologists find paramount, e.g., sacred space, being-in-the-world, and connectedness. |
