| 摘要 | There is widespread disagreement in various literatures (psychological, psychotherapeutic, philosophical, religious, and anthropological) regarding the nature, value, and use of anger. There are very different views regarding the relationship between anger and aggression, anger and reason, anger and intimacy, anger and spirituality, and also about how to “work” practically with anger in various contexts. The investigation of these and related concerns needs, in part, a framework that can both contain and make sense out of divergent views within and between various literatures. To this end, a fourfold typology of approaches to working with anger was developed and articulated, in conjunction with a thorough account of the more theoretical and empirical literature from several disciplines, particularly psychology, psychotherapy, and physiology, on the nature of anger. This typology included two more conventional approaches, (a) “anger-in” (restraining and rethinking anger) and (b) “anger-out” (directly expressing and releasing anger), and two transpersonally-oriented approaches, (c) “mindfully held anger” (consciously containing and investigating but not directly expressing anger), and (d) “heart-anger” (mindfully and compassionately, yet still openly, expressing anger). The methodology was primarily theoretical, given the aim of developing an orienting framework and responding to core theoretical questions regarding anger, and was supplemented by illustrative material gleaned from interviews conducted with knowledgeable colleagues (mainly regarding heart-anger). There were three main findings. First, there are major and radical divergences in thinking about the nature, meaning, and value of anger and its expression, both in contemporary and historical literature. Secondly, the orienting framework was able to contain and organize successfully the very varied literature from several disciplines. Thirdly, the accounts of the third and fourth approaches, articulated in considerable detail, clarified these two transpersonal approaches, which have not previously been systematically treated or even very clearly identified in the literature. A radical reconsideration of anger was recommended, in which anger, as moral fire, is permitted to provide both heat and light, both challenge and illumination. Central to such an approach is the cultivation of intimacy with anger (both personally and collectively), epitomized by the embodiment and efficacious practice of heart-anger. |
