摘要
Nuo in Guichi is a syncretic ritual complex centering on the advent of the Chinese New Year. It is an expression of peasant culture with sacrifices, dancing，and theatrical performances. The central element is the masks that mediate the nature-gods and spirits. In contrast to the Nuo cult in other regions, in Guichi there is no shamanism and only a little Taoist or popular religious influence observable. Buddhist influences are evident in a few ceremonial requisites and in theatrical performances. The use of masks, the dances, and the theatrical performances each derive from different historical epochs. Presumably therefore the Nuo cult in Guichi is very old and has undergone many historical vicissitudes.
