| 摘要 | A duality of musical expression between Dionysian and Apollonian elements is apparent throughout the history of the Japanese bamboo shakuhachi flute. Focusing more on the Dionysian aspect，the author traces the shakuhachi's association with the Fuke Zen sect of the 18th and 19th c. Its principal use was as a hoki：not an instrument of artistic，musical expression，but a meditational tool to achieve self-awareness and satori (enlightenment). In addition，the author describes an approach to ethnomusicology which requires not only participation in the culture -- through years of shakuhachi practice and performance -- and scientific observation of the music itself but also an awareness and scrutiny of one's self within that process. Knowledge of one's self is a major part of ethnomusicological study，and this has a direct relationship with the self-awareness, hoki，aspect of the traditional shakuhachi. |
