| 摘要 | Instruments of Tibetan Buddhists that were surveyed at various monastic sites in India, Nepal，and Bhutan are described and grouped according to their functions. The dung chen (long horn) and rgya gling (the double-reed) are used to announce the arrival and departure of important persons in ceremonies. The gan di (wood block)，`khar rnga (gong)，and the dung dkar (conch shell) are used to call residents of religious communities to worship. Instruments that produce the rhythmic foundation of the ensemble during the ritual include a variety of struck drums, generally categorized as rnga, and three types of cymbals (sbub chal，sil nyan，and ting shags). Drum and cymbal notation is also considered. The dril bu (handbell) used by the Buddhists, the gshang (bell) used by the Bon shamans, the dameru (waisted，double-sided rung drum)，and the rkang gling (human thighbone trumpet)，as well as symbolic ritual instruments, the pi wang (lute) and gling bu (flute)，are also investigated. The appendix includes a survey of textual references on each of the instruments and iconographic examples of instruments, illustrating their symbolism. The enclosed CD presents a variety of instrumental and vocal music，including a vocal presentation demonstrating the musical concepts behind a composition for dung chen. |
