TIBETAN BUDDHISM; RITUAL; SYMBOLISM; SUN DANCE RELIGION; BIOGENETIC
摘要
A biogenetic structural explanation is offered for the cross-cultural use of ritual to obtain mystical experience, intuitive knowledge and power. The ritual techniques of both Tibetan Buddhist and Sun Dance religion are explored. The various detailed techniques and prescribed rituals in both traditions employing symbols and other motor and sensory "drivers" cause radical re-entrainments of the neurobiological systems mediating experience in the brain. The effect of ritual is to bring about a prescribed set of religious experiences verifying the cosmology of the culture.
