| 摘要 | Assesses Cage's rhetorical borrowings, first from South Asian philosophy in the 1940s (e.g.，Coomaraswamy，Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna)，and then from East Asian philosophy in the 1950s (e.g.，Suzuki，Huang Po，Blyth, Taoist sources). The techniques by which Cage transformed these borrowings to serve his ultramodernist agenda are differentiated. Cage's aesthetic shift from the late 1940s through the early 1950s is contextualized historically with a study of his activities at Black Mountain College. A chronological appendix covers the years 1938 to 1954 and lists works, concerts, lectures, and other performances; excerpts from relevant reviews and articles are also included. |
