| 摘要 | Two instruments are recorded as possibly used in the Athenian Panathenaia festival,as performed in the 5th c. B.C. at the Parthenon:double aulos and kithara. The orchestra of the Temple at Jerusalem in the 1st c. A.D. included the kinnor, nevel, metziltayim, hazozerah, halil, and magrephah, with the shofar being blown on High Holidays. No instruments were incorporated into Christian ritual at Hagia Sophia in Constantinople in the 6th c. Thus the use of bells, recorded for St. Peter's, Rome,by the middle of the 8th c.,is not derived from any of these traditions. A link between North Indian Buddhism,in which the ringing of bells in temples was a common practice, and Hellenistic culture in the Middle East is hypothesized as a source. |
