| 摘要 | In the West the power of music lies in its capacity to affect the psyche of the hearer. In other societies music has connections with magic，ritual，and ceremony，as well as with psychic experience. In India, the concept of nada ties music to the universe，a vast spiritual cosmology. In China, Indonesia, and Tibet，music has been thought to possess great power，a power that has been systematically harnessed to mental and spiritual processes. In Japan，certain forms of Buddhism seem to be founded on a faith in the psychic power of music，and traces of similar beliefs can be observed in the West in the Dionysiac tradition，the Musica enchiriadis, Hildegard of Bingen，and many 19th- and 20th-c. composers. |
