| 摘要 | The opera Europeras 1 & 2 (given its first performance 17 December 1987) uses chance operations and demonstrates a system of interpenetration and nonobstruction. The instrumental music is a collage of fragments from 70 operas performed by unconducted soloists. Stage action includes indeterminant reading from Webster's unabridged dictionary (2nd edition). An extremely brief film，conceived by Cage and executed by Frank Schaeffer，plays continuously before the first part of the opera, during intermission，and after the second part. The work also displays the influences of Zen Buddhism. |
