| 摘要 | The frequent interpretation of the close of the Ring des Nibelungen as the redemption of the world by love and the dawning of a rosy future for humanity corresponds to the composer's original intentions, but not to the work he completed under the influence of Schopenhauer and Buddhism. A draft of a final speech for Brunnhilde，written in 1856，clarifies the view of the Ring text as a continuous series of symbolic deaths and rebirths of the samsara cycle，at the end of which Brunnhilde achieves Budhahood -- freedom from rebirth -- while Hagen's drowning suggests that evil，as egotistical will，will be reborn to be as present in the new world as it was in the old. The motif of Brunnhilde's glorification refers to her entrance into Nirvana, not to redemption by love. |
