| 摘要 | At dawn and before retiring each day in the temples and monasteries of Rinzai Zen Buddhism in Japan and the U.S.,a suspended hardwood slab is struck. The sound of the mokuhan carries out from the meditation hall in a patterned sequence that incorporates three distinct occurrences of the so-called accelerating roll. It is suggested that the roll sequence is a systematic disruption of the background of temporality. Because it proceeds gradually,it allows us to be aware of the contracting of the temporal field-horizon in a way that we ordinarily are not. |
