| 摘要 | Mu-lien dramas performed during funerals in Fukien raise general questions about ritual structures and their regional variations. Such theatrical sequences provide a sophisticated commentary on the powers and methods of Taoist and Buddhist ritual. Lei Yu-sheng，the antithetical counterpart of Mu-lien，plays the role of a common spirit-medium whose powers contrast with those available to a Taoist or Buddhist priest. Mu-lien plays that incorporate the character of Lei Yu-sheng explore the relationship between shamanism and the higher religions of China. |
