| 摘要 | An examination of the relevance of the 7th-c. Chinese Surangama sutra in understanding various historical and philosophical aspects of the Japanese Fuke sect of Zen Buddhism and its practice of shakuhachi playing. The sutra's historical origins and close identification with the Zen tradition in China and Japan are discussed and the concept of a meditation on sound contained in the sutra is examined. While the Fuke shakuhachi tradition，equating shakuhachi performance with spiritual meditation，may not have been based solely on the sutra, it is found to be consistent with Fuke philosophy and serves as a possible source of the ideas of the Fuke sect about spiritual practice based on sound and hearing. |
