The monk poet Lin Yi,a starter of monk poems, was once one of Fa She’s favourite disciples, but his monk poems were strongly flavoured with secularity and lacked a buddhist’s religious conception. He was skilled at the depicture of a quiet, cold and dim scenery. The style of his poems was not only deliberate and vivid, but also serene and simple. Lin Che,ranking the third among the monk posts, was a more active post. His poems, changing with his complex sxperience and the ups and downs of his social position, representes a shift from the description of the make-up to the expression of his indignation and then developed into a style of serenity and indifference. These poems, cold and bleak, were characteristic of buddhist spirit.
