| 摘要 | This thesis addresses Thai masculinity and various related issues due to the lack of academic materials related to male gender within Asian Studies and gender studies. It investigates existing materials regarding both Thai male and female gender, including academic and non-academic sources in Thai and English related to politics, Buddhism, and literature. Patriarchical figures and institutions had existed for centuries throughout Thailand's history, affecting many aspects of Thai society. However, due to newer opportunities for both men and women, ideals of masculine figures changed into more supportive ones in regard to gender relations while certain phenomena still exist in Thailand encouraging the distancing of male figures from families, contributing to current forms of oppression. |
