| 摘要 | The evolution of a society including its related economic system, is closely linked to changes in its underlying religious beliefs and value systems. The religion and values a society lives by will determine its world view, its scientific enterprise and technology, and its political and economic arrangements. The relation between human development and development of the overall society is closely intertwined. The further development proceeds, the more necessary it is for human beings to deepen their own self-understanding and knowledge of the world. The misconceptions regarding religious culture and development account for part of the failure of the "old paradigm" of development. Culture, which is deeply rooted in religious beliefs, as one variable in the process of change, has become increasingly central in the search for a "new paradigm". The purpose of this Thai case study, therefore, is to examine carefully and critically an alternative development path based on a Buddhist perspective. The study inherently covers both normative and heuristic dimensions of the Buddhist development concept, which represent a challenge for those interested in alternative development methods and models. |
