摘要
Concerns the tradition of Hompa Hongwanji, one of the 10 schools of the Jodo-Shinshu sect of Japanese Buddhism,as practiced at the Senshin Buddhist church in Los Angeles. Provides 1) an overall view of the tradition,2) a description of the chants and instruments found in the ritual,3) transcriptions and analysis of representative chants, and 4) an exploration of the connection between musical structure and ritual function. The music is molded by traditional Buddhist concepts of music, the type of ritual performed, and the textual and musical resources employed.
