| 摘要 | In her preface the author describes this book as "an introduction to some of the important approaches to the cyclical patterning of history in eastern and western thought." The book is divided into three parts, dealing with three main types of cyclical theories of history：(1) Recurrent Cosmic Cycles (Mesopotamia, Indian Thought，Buddhism，Jainism，the Mandala, Eastern Yogic Philosophies, Chinese Thought，Greek and Roman Thought); (2) One-Grand-Cycle Patterns (Hebrew-Christian，St. Augustine，Moslem Thought，Hegel and Marx，Aurobindo，Radhakrishnan); (3) Culture Cycles (Ibn Khaldun，Vico，Spengler，Sorokin，Toynbee). In a conclusion the author "presents a defense of cyclical patterning of history." |
