| 摘要 | This article looks at a largely ignored aspect of the work of T.S. Eliot, namely the influence on his poetry of his studies in Buddhism while at Harvard. Some attention is given to the non-orthodox nature of Eliot's Christianity but the main focus of the paper is on Eliot's Four Quartets with particular attention being paid to the first and last of the four, 'Burnt Norton' and 'Little Gidding'. The stress on these two poems is purely the result of limitations of space, and in no way suggests that they are more amenable to a Buddhist interpretation than the others. |
