| 摘要 | In recent years there has been a great upsurge of interest in Asian psychology. Conferences, workshops, and articles on Asian psychology are burgeoning. However, a systematic analysis of any one of the Asian psychologies is lacking. In its critical analysis of the psychology of Buddhism, this dissertation fills a vital need.This dissertation begins by tracing the historical origins of Buddhism. Next, it examines the philosophical basis of Buddhist psychology. A critical analysis of the salient psychological elements of Buddhism follows. Some of the key issues considered are the concept of self in Buddhism, the nature of human consciousness, the characteristics of the meditative state, the Buddhist view of death and its implications for psychotherapy, etc. The dissertation concludes by exploring the implications of Buddhism for Western approaches to psychotherapy. |
