| 摘要 | Human beings are innately creative. They are naturally heartfelt, and capable of unbiased perception and compassionate communication. Art which springs from this basic nature is transformative. It evokes an atmosphere of upliftedness and clarity. Engaging with the arts can awaken innate creativity: transforming habitual tendencies which distort the heart/mind connection to "things as they are." Expression of innate creativity does not depend on "artistic talent": it originates in the heart of human longing. This two-part project examines the expression of innate creativity and the transformation of habitual tendencies through an application of Buddhist psychology and Dharma art. Part One is a video of a visual arts presentation entitled the "Good Medicine Art Show". Part Two is a Statement of Contextual Inquiry, which endeavours to set the presentation in its appropriate philosophical and cross-cultural context. The video includes a presentation of Japanese Court Dance (Bugaku), formal flower arrangements (Ikebana), a slide presentation of pastels accompanied by spontaneous poetry and commentary, a lecture on Innate Creativity, and an exhibition of watercolours. This study explores the Vajrayana Buddhist description of the Five Buddha Families via the Maitri Space Awareness training (a meditation practice developed in the 1970's by Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche and Suzuki Roshi connected with taking specific postures in coloured rooms, evoking and highlighting different psychological styles of perception and communication) in an attempt to activate and communicate innate creativity in visual art and interpersonal dynamics. |
