| 摘要 | In this paper i attempt to undertake a brief comparative study of two concepts -- the concept of role-distance and the concept of "niskama karma". i contend that although both concepts refer to the distinction between person "qua" person and person as a role-player，they do so from two different points of view. first，a person taking up role-distance steps back from his own role because he refuses to be identified with his role and wants to be treated as a person. a person practising "niskama karma"，on the other hand，distinguishes himself from the role，because to him，role-attachment leads to rebirth and delays final liberation. secondly，role-distance does not encourage indifference to the results of one's own labour，while "niskama karma" does discourage a person from expecting any good result from his own labour. |
