| 摘要 | Practitioners face the problem of how to communicate their understanding of a Zen question，or IkoanD，during community-wide teacher-student interviews, called IDharmaD combat. Using ethnographic and conversation analytic methods to examine the interview discourse，we show (1) how the teacher interactionally uses the IkoanD，not only to initially challenge，but to further question，formulate the student's answer，and make evaluative comments. (2) Given the Zen proscriptions about discursive，rational answers, we examine how the demonstration of understanding is preferred and how such demonstration is interactionally called for，produced，and assessed. Zen practices are re-created through talk. |
