| 摘要 | 在《小城故事》中，安德森式的「怪誕」與佛家所謂的「執著」極為類似，本論文以此為基石，企圖從禪的觀點，探討怪誕者因執著而飽受痛苦的情狀，並展現人物獲得救贖的可能性與經過。「我執」和「法執」導致怪誕。怪誕者不明「諸行無常」，「諸法無我」之理，一味執著於有我和事實的結果，便自囚於意識我或經驗我之中，貪，瞋，癡三毒造成的恐懼，無慮，疏離，怪誕者因而受苦。想獲得解脫，必須超越這層感情障礙，明心見性。開悟的經驗就是一種成長，特別是小說中的主角喬治‧威拉德，深深體驗到「空」，擺脫二元對立的束縛，領悟宇宙本是一體的真締，悲天憫人的情懷從自性中自然流露，對他而言，寫作成為一種救贖的藝術。
