| 摘要 | The practice of mindfulness when applied to hatha yoga integrates the body and mind. Mindfulness yoga is a lifetime engagement – not a way to get somewhere else, but to be in this very moment, with this very breath, whether the experience is pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral. This is where yoga postures (asanas) are of great help. Yoga practice is like a friendly laboratory and refuge for the body and the mind. It is a time to closely watch how the body reacts to fear, uncertainty, frustration, and so forth, as well as how the mind and thoughts respond to these emotions. It is crucial to understand, that yoga is not something that you do, much less some kind of physical workout, but the embodiment of mindfulness. At times, yoga practice can be incredibly gentle, encouraging a sense of physical relaxation. But surprisingly, the mind is often anything but relaxed, with memories, worries, or fantasies disrupting the quietude. Through mindful movement, muscles are strengthened, but yoga is not a body-building routine. Although flexibility increases, it is not a stretching practice. Although alignment may be corrected, it is not an alignment discipline. And although the heart and breathing rate may increase with some exercises, it is not a cardio-vascular workout. Yoga is meditation, one of the aspects of mindful living. Like meditation, yoga is an aspect of mindful living. Being mindful in yoga (posture/movement) practice, brings awareness to what is happening in the mind and body. It is learning to mindfully move the body with intention, which then aligns the physical, emotional, and mental dimensions of being. This is the first step of working towards well-being and a mindful approach to daily life. In my experience, when we practice, we tune in to ourselves by turning the focus of our awareness inward and noticing what and how our body is doing, what our mind is thinking, and what we are feeling. In this way, we begin to move mindfully. At the same time, we begin to be aware of making every move meaningful. Being mindful requires constant awareness of the connection between our mind and body. This mindfulness yoga class will focus on exploring breath, balance, and movement. We will take time to explore simple postures and variations while expanding awareness of the body through both stillness and flowing movement. Students are encouraged to be creative while learning to explore the ranges of motion in their bodies and are given modifications to pace the class to their own abilities. By encouraging the mind to focus on various patterns of breathing, the mind becomes calm and quiet. The exercises and movements are gentle, enjoyable, and suitable for most people, regardless of age, physical fitness, or experience. The session gently unwinds with grace and ease and the class concludes with deep relaxation. Choose to be awake – Mindfulness Yoga! |
