The author describes the four fundamental practices of the Bodhisattva, as explained by the great Japanese Zen master Dogen Zenji in his "Bodaisatta Shishobo" (The Bodhisattva's Four Embracing Dharmas), a chapter of his masterwork Shobogenzo, (Treasury of the True Dharma Eye). The four practices are Giving, Loving-Speech, Beneficial-Action, and Identity-Action. A translation of "Bodaisatta Shishobo" follows the article.
