| 摘要 | 胡適先生用懷疑精神和科學實證的態度及方法來研究禪宗，通過歷史的脈絡去把握禪，在歷史的背景中去理解禪。他認為，中國佛教是印度佛教的中國化。禪宗是典型的中國化的佛教，并且是中國思想史和中國佛教史上的一場革命運動。中國禪是印度禪不同程度的老莊化。在佛教中國化的過程中，神會和尚擔任了極其重要的作用，他所起的作用在中國佛教史上沒有第二個人可以與之相媲美。神會是《壇經》的真正作者，他建立了新的“禪學”，成為禪宗的真正“開山之祖”。在禪宗史上，從達摩到神秀，都以《楞伽經》作為本宗的心要，屬于正統的楞伽宗。慧能、神會推翻了楞伽宗的法統，用《金剛經》代替了《楞伽經》，即般若宗革了楞伽宗的命，南北分宗由是而起。禪在胡適先生的眼中，禪是解放知性的一種智慧，而要獲得禪，“不說破”具有很大的重要意義。 Mr Hu Shi uses the standpoint and method of doubt energy and scientific evidence to discuss the Zen, through the process of historical idea to master the Zen, in the history of the background to understand zen.
