| 摘要 | In this paper, the tenets of Buddhism will be the framework used to explore the poetry of Emily Dickinson. I will talk about how the sense of sight is important to Dickinson and to Buddhists. I will correlate Dickinson's idea of Circumference and the Buddhist's “View” and how they both point to the nature of the mind and reality. A delineation of what constitutes the Buddhist view will be given and a selection of Dickinson's poems reflecting that view will be presented and studied. Dickinson's evolution in an historical, philosophical context will be explored as it relates to her poetry. It will be shown how the influences in her life propelled her in a direction which brought her increasingly into a realm which is similar to the state a Buddhist practitioner wishes to attain: all-encompassing, moving from inner to outer. |
