| 摘要 | The purpose of this thesis is to study the concepts of Karma in Theravada Buddhism and also to study the problems connected with those concepts in contemporary Thai Buddhist society. Information was collected from the Tripitaka and Buddhist literature. Data was collected from questionaires which has been filled in by 180 people, both monks and lay people, to give a representative sample from Thai Buddhists. This was done in order to show what the real meaning of Karma in Buddhist is. There is an attempt to classify these opinions into groups. There is also an attempt to find out how many types of problems due to these opinions and views about Karma. There is also advice about how to solve problems which arise due to the misunderstanding about Krama which exist at the present time in Thai society. The results of the research about opinions of Karma taken from the questionaires, and held by contemporary Thai Buddhists, are as follows :- A. Problems due to misunderstanding about Karma. I) 66.61% of people understand the concept of Karma. II) 33.38% of people have misunderstandings about the concept of Karma. B. The reasons for the beliefs of Thai Buddhists. I) 8.49% of people follow other people’s beliefs. II) 21.67% of people believe what monks have taught them. III) 32.46% of people believe what is written in the Tripitaka and the commentaries etc. IV) 37.35% of people get their beliefs from what was taught by the Buddha. C. The way to resolve misunderstandings about concept of Karma. I) Find out the real meanings. II) Increase familiarity with real Buddhist ideas. III) Find out the objectives of Buddhist teaching related to Karma. IV) Study Buddhist texts. V) Practise the Dhamma. From his studies of the opinions about Karma held by Theravada Buddhist, and his studies about the problems relating to Karma in contemporary Buddhist society, the researcher found there are many things to be studied in the Buddha’s teachings in order to solve problems relating to the misunderstanding of the concepts of Karma. The teachings also point the way to resolve these misunderstandings. e.g. Misunderstandings of Buddhist opinions about life after death : Misunderstandings about the circle of life and death in Buddhism : Problems due to Misunderstandings about the Buddhist concept of contentment and solitude prevalent in contemporary Thai Buddhist society etc. |
