| 摘要 | This Thesis aims at the study of the concept of Musavada in Theravada Buddhist philosophy. The study is based on the Tipitaka, the Atthakathas (conmentaries) and other Buddhist scriptures, and also connects with the current situations in Thai society through such mass medias as newspaper, radio and television etc. From the study, it is found that Musavada literally means the false speech but its meaning practically covers all other bad speeches. The criteria of Musavada in Buddhist Philosophy is put under the following four factors ; namely; 1. False matter 2. Willing to speak it out 3. Trying to do so 4. Being Understood by a listener the matter. Whenever the factors are complete the violation of Musavada will takes place. On the point of Musavada, however, one dispute considered by philosophers is that of true speech causing a loss of benefit and false speech causing a win of it, which is chosen by people? It is generally found that most people prefer to choose the latter. The choose complies with the Buddha's word, Of human beings, who refrain from Musavada and do not, the former are fewer in number. At the present, the violation of Musavada is done by people in their personal relationship as well as by the mass media one key question is : Is this violation then necessary or practicable? Its answer comes from the three groups of philosophy as follows:- 1. The first group, showing the Hedonism and Utilitarianism theory of Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill, produces an answer ascertaining the practicability of Musavada in the case of personal happiness and benefit. 2. The second group, according to the rationalism theory of Immanuel Kant, denies the possibility of Musavada in all cases and ascertains that only true speech, even though causing a great loss, must be performed. 3. The third group, like the second one, insists on the Buddhist philosophy that allows people only to speak useful true speech at the appropriate time. The violation of Musavada, most people misunderstand, produces less bad result than the rest of five precepts do. In Buddhist philosophy, the violation of five precepts begets results, even different but equally bad, so people must maintain true speech beyond life for the sake of a supreme goal, Nibbana. |
