| 摘要 | This paper will examine Tibetan Buddhist perspectives on anger through the Mahayana and Vajrayana vehicles of study, specifically as taught by H.H. The Dalai Lama and meditation master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. The antidote to anger on the Mahayana path is the development of patience and the Vajrayana path teaches the student to transform the energy of anger through the process of transmutation. The purpose of both is to awaken compassion. This paper will discuss both paths and offer examples of how these Buddhist approaches have influenced psychotherapy in the West, with particular attention paid to the work of American psychotherapist and author John Welwood. The paper asks whether Buddhist practices offer Western psychotherapy effective and complimentary ways of working with anger. |
