| 摘要 | The article comments on the context of Lloyd Burton's book, Worship and Wilderness: Culture, Religion, and Law in Public Lands Management, involving religion, law and accommodating multiculturalism in the U.S. Most religions have both locative and utopian aspects, but American Christianity has been peculiarly placeless. They have been next-worldly in their explicit religious life, notwithstanding their famous Weberian tendency to invest worldly pursuits with sacred status. The practical functioning of the First Amendment religion clauses does depend on a reading of religion as private, individual, chosen, and believed, rather than as public, communal, given, and enacted. |
