The article provides information on "Awake: Art, Buddhism, and the Dimensions of Consciousness," a multi-venue project dedicated to the intersection of Buddhism and contemporary art that included consortium meetings, retreats, lectures, and art exhibitions in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, and Seattle, during April 2001 to June 2005. On February 22, 2004, Buddhists' new year festival Losar took place in conjunction with the exhibition "Tibet: Treasures from the Roof of the World," an exhibition of Tibetan Buddhist art that has never before been seen outside of Tibet and China. The exhibition coincided with a number of Buddhist exhibitions and events in southern California loosely organized under "Awake." Awake sponsored eight more consortiums, each organized around a different theme for which a guest speaker was invited to give a paper. The agendas for the consortiums, all of which took place at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center in Marin County, California, included plenty of down time to meditate, take a walk, or just nap.
