| 摘要 | Examines the content and nature of Han Yong-un's reform ideas from Korean Buddhism. Analysis of the writing of Yong-un titled "On the Reform of Korean Buddhism"; Yong-un's opinion on monks. This paper examines the content and nature of Han Yong-un's reform ideas for Korean Buddhism by analyzing his writing, "On the Reform of Korean Buddhism" (Gaehyeogan, 1931), that has so far not drawn any academic attention. Until now, studies of Han's reforms have mainly focused on his work, On the Revitalization of Korean Buddhism" (Yusillon, 1913). "Gaehyeogan" is composed of the following chapters: Introduction, Establishment of a Central Organization, Reorganization of Temples, Guaranteeing the Livelihood of Believers, Translation of Buddhist Scriptures, Establishment of Popular Buddhism, Promotion of Seon and Gyo, and Conclusion. In comparison with Yusillon, the key themes of "Gaehyeogan" can be summarized as follows: Han's sustained will to reform Korean Buddhism, reflections on his direct experiences in the reform movement, supplementation and reinforcement of the ideas presented in Yusillon, the search for the foundation of Buddhism, new emphasis of Buddhism as a national religion, and consolidation of Buddhist assets for its reform. In sum, Han Yong-un endeavored to consistently concretize his reform ideas from 1910 to 1930, while responding to the drastic changes of the time and exploring the feasibility of his reform ideas. |
