This is a laudable policy, since it will increase the accessibility of Pali texts and, one hopes, encourage new developments in Pali studies. The first of these translations is of the important Therigatha, the verses of the female nuns, the earliest surviving Indian collection of poetry ascribed to females. The careful and readable translation is extensively annotated (there are 85 pages of notes). |
