| 摘要 | One of Sakyamuni Buddha's Ten Great Disciples is Ananda, the Guardian of the Dhamma. His life history as recorded in the Pali Canon of the Theravadan Buddhist tradition is analyzed in the context of his progress from lay follower, stream-winner, once-returner, never-returner, to Arahat. His specific course along the Path of Purification to overcome the Ten Fetters is analyzed. The unique nature of his Unwholesome Roots is described. Controversies regarding Ananda's role with respect to being the Administrator of the San gha, as the proponent for women to join the monastic community, as the disciple who failed to delay the Buddha's parinibbana, and others are investigated. Ananda's role in the Jataka Tales is presented. |
