| 摘要 | The purpose of this research is to examine the abortion issue in the light of Christianity and Buddhism and to explore some differences and similarities derived from each tradition. Whether the viewpoints relating to abortion in both traditions are based on theistic or atheistic grounds, most pro-life Christians and Buddhists see that human life begins at the moment of conception. Pro-choice Christians and Buddhists believe that human life does not begin at conception and therefore abortion should remain legal. Various arguments are used by pro-choice advocates to support abortion: freedom for women to have control over their own bodies, child abuse, economic reasons, rape, etc. This study uses a textual and comparative approach. The textual approach is to identify the Christian and Buddhist positions on abortion and to find out the general tendencies in each tradition. This research also compares the Christian and Buddhist Scriptures and examines the effect of some doctrines, ethical principles and difficulties stemming from the critical point of when life begins.
