| 摘要 | Both Jack Kerouac and Gary Snyder incorporate ideas and aspects of Zen Buddhism into their writing. By examining their attitudes towards and depictions of Nature, we can see how clearly their own different philosophies of Zen are reflected in their relationship to the environment. Kerouac's brand of Zen is egocentric and self-centered, and involves his using Nature to escape his problems, avoid responsibility and try to exorcise his demons. Snyder's brand of Zen, combined with his ecological awareness, teaches a respect for nature, an understanding of man's interconnection with Nature, and a sense of responsibility which man has to know his own natural environment. |
