| 摘要 | The project Cycle of Life was inspired by the teachings of Buddhism and evolved from my interest in the impermanence of the body and permanence of the spirit. Hundreds of paper castings of imprints of body parts were assembled to create a large-scale installation that explored a tangible depiction of the idea of the spirit as vessel for the body and the body as vessel for the spirit. By means of a variety of techniques, such as mold malting, papermaking, paper casting and relief printing, I was able to deconstruct my body structure from head to toe, juxtaposing one part against another in new and unfamiliar relationships. Together, illuminated white human fragments suspended and floating in space, their projected dark shadows on white walls, and a series of prints of the textural details of my body served to manipulate the viewers' ordinary associations into an empathetic comprehension of the human spirit. |
