| 摘要 | This study will discuss the different practices and methods employed by the local traditional healers in treatment of illnesses in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It will examine how different Islamic healers employed relatively different treatments of the same illness and how they come to the conclusion to intervene and subsequently to pronounce that the cause of the ailment is due to some alien spirit or force. The research will also examine how different, often conflicting ideas of health and illness coexist and how healers cooperate in applying their different expertise in healing the same patients. I will focus on the ideas of healing as cultural schema that permeate in the urban setting where these schema must creatively interact. Healers must intersubjectively consider each other's ideas in order to practice their own skills in the healing process. |
