| 抄録 | 본고에서는 불복장의식에서 후령통 외부를 장엄하는 황초폭자의 상징성을 검토 해보았다. 형식적으로 황초폭자에는 사방주 내지 오자법신진언 등의 실담범자로서 오방 및 간방사우 자리를 차지하고 있지만, 그 이치는 성속이 함께하는 주변법계의 만상을 황초폭자가 함장하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 곧 이러한 황초폭자는 상징의 극치인 밀교의 만다라를 나타내는 것이다. 시대에 따라 그 형식과 내용이 가감되거나 첨삭되었지만, 오불의 종성을 안립한 후령통이 안치되는 황초폭자의 중앙은 금강계만다라의 성신회를 상징하고, 정사방 내지 간방사우의 종자자는 이들 오불로 부터 출생된 삼십칠존 등을 외호하는 존격을 상징한다. 비록 한국 불복장에서 황초폭자가 태장만다라 내지 금강계만다라의 형식 및 내용에 부합되지 않게 보일 수는 있어도 그 이치는 밀교 상징성의 극치인 만다라와 어긋나지 않는다고 할 수 있다. 특히 상원사 목조문수동자상의 황초폭자는 금강계만다라의 형식과 잘 부합한 다고 할 수 있다. This paper deeply studied the form and principle of Hwangchopokja that decorates the outside of Huryeongtong in the Buddhist Bokjang Ritual. Formally, the mantra for four directions and the five words of dharma-body occupy various places as Sanskrit characters in Hwangchopokja, but the principle contains all things in the universe as the universal reality-realm of saint and secular. Such a Hwangchopokja represents the esoteric mandala as the extreme of symbolism. Although the form and content have been added or reduced according to the times, the central part of Hwangchopokja, where Huryeongtong symbolizes the buddha seed-nature, is the symbol of the forming-the-basis group of Vajradhātu-Maṇḍala, and the periphery of all around the temple is decorated with 37 people born from the Buddha. The surrounding decoration symbolizes the role of another Buddha, including Thirty-seven honored ones born from the Buddha. Although the Hwangchopokja may not appear in the form and content of Garbha-Maṇḍala or Vajradhātu-Maṇḍala in Korean Buddhist Bokjang Ritual, their principle does not deviate from the mandala, the extreme of esoteric symbolism. In particular, the Hwangchopokja of the wooden image of the prince Mañjuśrī at Sangwonsa shows the form and principle of the mandala. |
